How To Become a Freelance Paraplanner

We are often asked how someone can become a contract paraplanner and we have some general advice on the progression to being able to work from home as an outsourced paraplanner.
The progression can be as follows:
  • Complete study to obtain your paraplanning certification
  • Commence an admin role within a financial planning business
  • Move into a hybrid admin & paraplanning role, often completing lower complexity Statement of Advice documents such as recommending insurance, superannuation or investment products
  • Progress to completing financial modelling and Statement of Advice documents for more complex strategies, such as SMSF advice, gearing advice, Transition to Retirement advice and Aged Care advice.
  • At this point, you can three common paths to take. You could move into an advisory role, a business management role or into a work-from-home contract paraplanning business.
From the final paths listed above, there are several benefits and disadvantages based on your skill set, your financial situation and your personal situation. Give us a call or send us an email if you'd like some help on choosing the best path to suit you.
